This is another Maria thinking back about childhood and the way coffee was made at home in Italy before the Moka came into existence. The 'machine' was called 'Napoletana' and it was also a stove top device. When the water came to a boil you inverted it and the water went through the coffee filled filter. We had several in various sizes. I wish I still had at least one! The coffee was wonderful and you never risked 'boiling' it, so it was never bitter.
